On Vacation

Man, and to think we go on vacation for R and R. We left yesterday around three o'clock to drive up to Washington D.C. How much traffic can there be on a Saturday afternoon in 102 degree temperature? Well the answer is a butt load!. What should have taken three hours turned into four. It didn't matter though because we were on vacation. We got settled into our hotel and decided that it was early enough to do a little exploring in our nations capital. We hopped into the car a headed downtown to check out the monuments and sights. We ended up on a toll road that required seventy five cents exact change, which we did not have, so my sister will be receiving that ticket for twenty five dollars in the mail for running on through. We made it to the Washington monument, found a three hour parking spot and began our exploration. We walked the whole Mall, the city at night is spectacular. My sister was a bit caught up into how unkempt everything was. Thought for a moment that she was going to start a foundation or something. After walking and seeing the monuments, Washington, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, Lincoln, Jefferson, Capital and the White House, we decided that we were hot, sweaty, hungry and tired. We got back to the car and headed home, with one last stop that I remembered from when I lived there in the early eighties. I directed my brother in law to Georgetown, found a spot to park and once again we began to walk. First to the steps and house where the Exorcist was filmed ( For you pups that's a scary film about devil possession). Then we went to a bar that was from my younger days and it was still there, The Tombs. we had a couple beers and appetizers there, everything was the same as I remembered. Knowing we had to be up at five thirty am for a full day of travel and it being ten o'clock we thought it best to head back to the room. Five thirty the wake up call came, none of us sprang from bed like we wanted to because of the sore, stiff muscles that weren't ready to work. We packed up and began our second day of travel. Flying went as expected, with security being a pain in the ass. Two hours to Atlanta two hour lay over and four hours to St. Thomas. From there we had to take a taxi to the ferry that would motor us in an hour and a half to the Island of Tortola BVI. Once there we cleared customs. I bought a bottle of Johnny Walker Double Black, never heard of it but man is it good, from the duty free shop. From there our host picked us all up to take us to our rental house on the Atlantic side of the Island. We got settled in here and walked down to the ocean, at waters edge we found this killer little restaurant in this tiny little village. We ate, drank and stumbled back to our house.  Everyone is in bed from being full, drunk and exhausted. I stayed up to talk to you! We are nestled in on a forest covered hillside, the Caribbean Sea behind us and the Atlantic in front  The night is full of tropical wildlife sounds, frogs , insects, birds and I don't even know what else, swear I just heard something big walk by my window and snorted. The stars so bright its as though you can reach out to grab them. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings us from this enchanted Island somewhere in the Caribbean. The sounds so hypnotic I need to hit the bed, so good night for now. Tomorrow brings another blog
